Walkie-Talkie is a private, family push-to-talk app. This page explains what data the app and its signaling server handle.

No accounts, no audio on our servers

There is no sign-up and no account system. Once two devices are connected, voice audio flows directly between them (peer-to-peer via WebRTC) and never passes through, or is stored on, our server.

What the signaling server sees

To help devices find each other, the app sends the following to our signaling server:

This data is short-lived: presence entries expire after 15 seconds of inactivity, queued handshake messages expire automatically after 60 seconds, and push tokens expire after 30 days of inactivity. Nothing is retained long-term or used for analytics, advertising, or profiling.

Background wake-up (VoIP push)

If your device has gone quiet in the background, the app can use Apple's push notification service to wake it up so you don't miss someone trying to talk to you. This only tells your device to reconnect -- it does not carry any audio or message content, and Apple does not have access to your conversations.

TURN relay (connectivity fallback)

When two devices cannot connect directly (e.g. different home networks), the app uses a TURN relay service to forward the connection. Media sent through this relay is encrypted end-to-end by WebRTC (DTLS-SRTP); the relay operator cannot read its contents.

Third parties

We do not sell or share data with advertisers. The only third-party infrastructure involved is our hosting provider (Vercel), our database provider (for temporary signaling data), the TURN relay provider used only when a direct connection fails, and Apple's push notification service (used only to wake the app in the background).
